CURRENT PROJECTS
Tasks may include vine cutting, invasive removal, pruning, planting, mulching, and watering. Volunteers help while utilizing community resources to clean up and beautify Allegheny River Boulevard.
Vegetation Management
We work along ARB with the PennDOT Adopt-a-Highway groups to pick up and bag litter and debris from the roadside. Safety vests, trash bags, and work gloves are provided.
Roadway Cleanup
Beautiful native plantings and cleaner streets will make those neighborhoods along ARB a better place to live. Neighborhoods include: Highland Park, Lincoln–Lemington–Belmar, Penn Hills, Verona, and Oakmont.
Beautification Efforts
In April 2024, ARBPA engaged with Landmarks SGA and Penn Hills Community Development Corporation to develop a Preservation Management Plan for the Allegheny River Boulevard Historic District. We are pleased to announce the plan is now finalized and you can download it here! The plan will guide decision-making processes regarding maintenance, enhancement, development, and preservation efforts for both the natural and built elements along the boulevard. The Allegheny River Boulevard Preservation Management Plan is an important first step in fulfilling the ARBPA mission “to restore, preserve and enhance the natural and built environments of the historic Allegheny River Boulevard by working with all interested parties to steward and improve the traveling experience of the communities and visitors of the Allegheny Valley.”
The Preservation Management Plan was made possible by:
Penn Hills Community Development Corporation
The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s Keystone Historic Preservation Grant, a program funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
The Rivers of Steel Heritage Area
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation, Heritage Areas Program Fund, Environmental Stewardship Fund.
Republic Services
The Jack Buncher Foundation
Jendoco Construction
And many donations from kind individuals in our community!
